So dust off your salopettes and ski jackets and hits the slopes for some top free-riding action this year.
Davos is the best overall resort in Switzerland with something on offer for everyone. It is a major snowboard resort it offers lots of deep powder, big natural hits, two half-pipes, fun parks, a boardercross circuit and night riding. The resort is made up of five different mountains with each of them big enough to hold your attention for a day. Davos has 320km of top snowboarding terrain with some mega off-piste opportunities.
St Anton is by far the best resort for freeriders in Austria. It has some of the best snowboarding terrain together with a vast selection of natural obstacles, steep powder fields and drop-offs. A serious free-riders resort you will be amazed at how quickly this place gets ridden out. St Anton is the largest ski resort in the Arlberg area and is regarded as one of Europe’s best ski areas with some fantastic catered ski chalets. It offers a huge network of cable cars and lifts all over its substantial assorted terrain with challenging on and off-piste boarding surrounded by outstanding beauty.
Jackson Hole provides an exceptional experience on and off the slopes and is a genuine, old-fashioned, Western town complete with elevated wooden boardwalks and genuine cowboy saloons. Amazing snowfall make it a great location for pros as it provides difficult slopes, deep snow and narrow chutes, although it’s not necessarily a suitable resort for beginners. The resort is spread over a massive 2,500 acres of terrain Jackson Hole is surrounded by a lot of the most impressive scenery it is a great location for a ski holiday in America. Visitors this season will be able to take advantage of a re-designed kid’s ranch, new lift and increased snow making.
Mayrhofen has become a great destination for snowboarders with a lot of freestylers and freeriders heading to the resort to check out its terrain. It has one of the best terrain parks which is located in the valley and has some big table tops and an excellent half-pipe. Mayrhofen is linked with Hippach, Finkenbery and Eggalm/Rastkogel to form the largest ski area in the Ziller Valley.
Tignes is one of Europe’s most snowboard friendly resorts and boasts the best half pipe in the Alps, excellent snow parks and some fantastic off-piste opportunities. Tignes has an excellent snow record with the main lifts open from September through to May. There is a good fun park which boasts two pipes, rails and a boardercross while freeriders have a great choice of off-piste runs. The resort shares its ski domain with Val d’Isere and together they make the Espace Killy which can be accessed by using a common pass.
